Have to agree. Missing has never been any fun. Townsend Whelen got it right. "Only accurate rifles are interesting."

Thanks from M21guy

I dont know that missing is fun, but it can be informative and to me that can
be interesting and opportunity to learn
I like to be able to learn something when I shoot and you just cant do that with a rifle that wont perform.Offhand I can think of a few rifles Ive owned that didnt and they were sold off after I made a reasonable effort(bedding etc) to get them shooting to expectations(lifes to short). After 50 some yrs.. hell, 150 yrs Id hope to still be learning and having fun shooting.I dont enjoy spray and pray but to each his own.I had a friend (now gone) who loved to
slap in a 75rd drum on his AK and dump the mag.He was a lousy shot and remained so thruout his life but whos to say he didnt enjoy his shooting as much as I do?

Its all good!

Hi
I guess I kind of gave the wrong impression in my orgional post.
I don't like to spray either. I like to be as accurate as I can be but don't really care if I have a 5 shot group I can put in a 1/2 inch spread. What I do want to do is put a round in the target within an inch of my aim point. I don't really look to take a second shot.
If I can hit my target on my first shot then I don't have to take a second shot and maybe give away my position. Sometimes you have to take that second shot, and I don't like to.
I think that if everyone want's to try to shoot a 1/2 inch group at 500 yard's that is fine but I was seeing so many people leaveing the range cursing their weapon and very unhappy because they couldn't do it.
I think they were looseing out on how much fun shooting can be.
Hope I explained myself a little better.
Greg

"This was at 50ft. Not bragining about it but it sure as heck was an eye opener to slow down a little."

You are shooting steel targets or rebar at 50 feet?? At that distance, the ricochet could kill you or someone else.

No problem I took no offense.
Its a good OP and has generated alot of good posts IMO the definition of a good topic/post.
Again as far as accuracy and individual rifles I have different expectations for different platforms.REASONABLE expectations that if not met means the rifle needs work until it does meet your expectations.I love the intrinsic accuracy of the out of the box HBARs, but have a good time making modifications to my M1A.I may be getting a bit lazy in my middle years but I prefer an accurate out of the box riifle to one I need to make substantial $/labor
investments into.Contradictory but I enjoy the tinkering/parts swaps, but major mods to the rifles I own now are beyond my capability.

Yes I know what you mean.
I am building an old mauser for fun. I have decided to leave the orgional stock on it with the front cut off for a shorter barrel. I will scope it and run a bi pod. I am probally going to a much more accurate barrel and hope to have a good shooter at 500 meter's. Not to much money as I only gave $50.00 for the rifle to begin with.
I hope it is a good shooter and if it isn't I will move on.
I could probally buy a new Remmington of savage for less then $500.00 and have sub moa out of the box but I still like to tinker all though I am a mechanic and not a gun smith.
The way I look at it is as long as you have fun shooting then it is a worthwhile hobby and it may come in handy when the chinese come over to visit.

Your right on the money about cost and accuracy in that the out of box savage in particular is inexpensive and as accurate as can reasonably be expected from a light sporter if my experience with them is common. If thats what I had for a 800m DMR given good optics Id be content.
On the other hand for a scout type rifle/survival bolt gun the mauser would be preferable with its reliability-ruggednes simple bolt diss and maybe most important the stripper clip loading.Id like to modify my yugo with a good set of target type
peep sights w/a post front and reqular 1 1/4 sling swivels or a scout sling setup but its just to nice an example to be drilling and tapping on.Shoulda bought a VG example rebbled with a 7.62 wilson BBL and on from there. maybe'06' but I think actions to short and little surplus '06' ammo.
Ever see one of the swede mauser target/ sniper rifles with the cut back forend and hanguard with a front bbl band/sling swivel ass. mounted on the cut back stock?
They look sweet with the 26in HB w/hooded front target sight.
To many interests not enough $! Hell i dont even have adequate ammo/spare pts for what I have.I sure enjoy what I do have but no more weapons for now, a moratorium until adequate ammo/spares is cached.

gotta go to the ammo section now!
