About 15 years ago down on a range in Corpus Christy TX. it was either 500 Meters or 600 yds slung up- prone. ( don't remember the exact distance. I just dialed in what my spotter told me into my M14 sight. he was a garand shooter) Hit the Ram target 5 out of 8 rounds. first three were spotters for wind. it was blowing like crazy directly across the range. once I got that dialed in, the next 5 shots went into a group about 4" dead in the boiler room of that ram steel target. I stopped and looked up to ask why it hadn't fell and the spotter said I don't know, but it looked like hits to me in the scope? then It fell off the stand. the military ball ammo just didn't have enough weight to knock it over. I just walked it back off the rail with the hits. I was shooting either my stock Poly or my older springfield M1A with a M1 lockbar rear sight. When I built my house, my wife was pregnant with our twins and I had to sell them both along with my FN FAL. Man I miss that M1A it had beautiful wood and was in great condition. the Lockbar sight was just cool.

800 yards with a Douglas barreled Hvy NM profile. I built my own stock with 15 layers of fiberglass over an old cherry USGI wood stock and then glassed the Norinco receiver into it. ARMS18 mount with Millett Angle-Loc rings and a Leupold Mark 4 M1 LR/T 6.5 x 20 x 50mm.

Holds the bull, but not always the Xring or Vbull as we call it here in Canada... yes the Vbull is 5 points.

1000 yards at quantico a couple weeks ago. Wind was blow hard in multiple directions. These are hits on a 45% man sized target, but it doesn't show all the misses, and there were a lot more of those.

1,000 yds at Oak Ridge Sportsmans Association in Tennessee back in 1999 & 2000. I think I fired a 175 in 1999 and a 173 in 2000. I was using an old Springfield Armory INC M1A (0085xx) with a lightweight SAK barrel.

Sadly only about 50 feet. I couldn't get on a rifle range on my only trip to the range since I got my Scout Squad. Looking forward to getting out to a "real range" when it warms up a bit!

800 yds using ARTII scope, 168 SMK's tailored to the rifle, off sandbags prone on a perfectly calm day. 20 for 20 head shots on standard GI target. Best I ever shot at that long range. Came close but never did repeat it again.

600 yards with the irons on a 30" round plate at Angeles Shooting Range. Really hard for me to see past 500. I think it took me three shots to get it on the steel. Next seven were on but it made me realize I might soon need some glass if I want to stretch out like that.

200 yards at my local range, they have a 600 yard range but I have not taken the orientation for that range yet ... hopefully in the next month or so I can take the orientation and shoot that range, can't wait to stretch the legs on the ol' M1A on it.

The term "accurate" can me different things to different people, so when I say this, it must be taken in the context of learning what I can do with the rifle.

I have used the irons on my Scout to hit a 3ft steel disc at 1000 yds with 147 gn Port. It was slung up prone.

It took me about 10 shots to get confidently dialed into elevation since I was trying out figures I had gotten for a standard length and things just were not working with those formulas. Once I found my distance it took me 8 or so to figure out what was happening with the windage as in Piru, CA, the wind is something crazy. It was tearing down our frames on all of our 400yd and below tagets so it was anyones guess what was happening up in the hills where the gongs were. I finally just tried holding off a little bit by bit and listening to comments from my spotter.

I was almost 2 mags in to the session (its CA so that's like almost 20 shots) and there were others still working on hitting it too, so when the spotter said it was a hit dead center I felt I had done what I came to do and let others continue.

So, I did it, but it was 20 shots. Is that accurate?

I do a pretty good bit of long range shooting here on the farm. Have a 12x16" gong set at 830yds from a picnic table in my back yard. Don't always hit it but last time out with my NM M1A I hit it 3 times out of 3. Felt good!

1050 yards at a gallon jug. Total luck shot but I got it on my second shot. Really one in a million. I was using some loads I built up using 178 Amax I worked up for my bolt gun back in the day and these shot pretty well in my Fulton as well.
